Have a 5 blade viscous fan for a extra 15 up. Can those things go bad? Mine is quite old. Any way to test them?

My 440 was also running hot which had an oil filled clutch fan. Replaced it with a new one and all is well. There was a noticeable turning resistance difference between the old one and the new one.

True , the clutch is filled with a fluid that expands with heat locking the clutch , if the fluid leaks out the clutch will not lock up & the fan will turn slow due to the drag making the cooling less effective

hot 440

There are 2 types. One is oil filled and one is thermostatic coil ty[t/AUtO the one I have are the ones that sell for about 115$ I think this is the thermodynamic type. Are the oil filled ones any better? Can the thermodynamic ones go bad? I guess anything mechanical can go bad!
