Would be interested on your repair results and where you got parts, when you're done. I also have that option on 71 GTX. Does anyone know if these cassette players actually play back cassettes, or if they just for the Dictaphone process to record on and drop off with secretary? I didn't think cassettes came out until later in the 70's. I read the technology started in 1968.
It will play back the cassette I have recorded on it before

But will it play pre-recorded cassettes? Off the shelf music for example.

Yes back yrs ago I recorded from my stereo and played cassettes and also recorded off the cassette player with the mic and then played it back I’ve only seen a few of them , I have a am 8 track for my 70 e body , I do have some am fm 8 tracks that has both knobs on the left side , I used to grab them out of cars when I ran across them

Cool! I was wondering if they were just dictaphone size. I honestly do not remember seeing one cassette player in a car in the late 60's early 70's. Plenty of 8 tracks. Now I just need to get my AM radio fixed so I can see if my cassette player works! Thanks guys.

I’ve never seen a am radio with the cassette player, make sure your radio has the din plug hanging out the back it will be about 3” long

Yes, it is the AM radio with the din plug. I have not tried to use it because I was looking at the original owner manual's instructions that require the AM radio to be operative and mine is not.

Ok, I'm sorry for hijacking this thread. I just got excited about the cassette player thing. I know of a few people doing conversions of 6.1 or 5.7 into E body. I have no problem with it, although I know it's not a cheap undertaking.

In response to the OP question, my humble opinion is that if the car was a numbers car like that, I wouldn't do the conversion. But that's just me. I will say that my current GTX is the last time I buy and play with a numbers car. I hate not being able to modify them (at least in my mind). I will go full on resto mod next car, but would do a B body.

Sorry again for changing the subject.

Hey that’s ok that’s how you find out about different things and I’m not going to put that 6.1 into the car , I’ll just sell it I’ve got a lot that I’ll clean out just tired of always working on things , I just want to get out and drive them

Yes. Just drive them.

I spent stupid hours trying to sand the grill of my GTX so I could repaint. Reason? So I could get rid of tiny imperfections. It had been repainted, including the silver part, to black. Because (with my limited knowledge) I didn't sand perfectly in those little squares, all I did was make it look worse when I repainted. Learned my lesson. Leave well enough alone!

I did drive the piss out of this gold one here that I owned twice though....and don't regret a single mile!

Now I have a supposed low mile 71 GTX 440+6. I plan on driving it and waxing it. That's about it!
