I have a 70 rt that i think has a bad steering pump. when i start it and let go of the wheel it turns the wheel quicky to one side immediately. it does the same thing whend driving when you let go of the wheel. when driving its easy to steer so I assume it is working to a certain degree. I wanted to get it rebuilt anyways just wanted to make sure that was my problem

Remove the valve assembly from the top of the box and check to make sure that the valve inside moves freely. If not, clean with some trans fluid and a Scotch Brite pad and reassemble.

if you loosen the 2 bolts holding the valve / return hose on top of the steering box & move it slightly up or down the steering will stay centered properly

Chryco is correct, if that does not fix it u have a bad steering box, not pump.
