Hi
Any one have any suggestions on the best way to repair sloppy door hing pins? ( upper & lower) What I was think of doing is welding in the holes and re drilling them with new pins. Has any one ever had to mess with them before, any other suggestion word be great.

Thx Doug

You can buy rebuild kits for these hinges that include new pins and bronze bushings. The S shaped springes are also available. I've bought the kits from Roseville Moparts for less then $15 per pair/door and have also seen them at some of the chain auto parts stores in the Doormen or Help line of products. You will likely see a notch worn in the S shaped spring after you take them apart, I have welded this in and ground it down with great success. BTW Roseville Moparts is one of our sponsers over to the right of your screen. Good luck and make sure you are very accurate when drilling them out for the bushing, a drill press and a fixture to hold the hinge perpendicular to the drill bit is a must.

Thanks for the reply Detmatt1 bear with me I am the new guy still trying to figure all this out with pictures and typing.

I bought a set today from the Help parts and found that the bushing was not long enough to go throw both layers of steel they only measure 3/16 and I measure approx.... 3/8 to 7/16. I will check with Roseville and see if there bushings are little longer. Thanks again for the info on the S spring weld fix.

The bushings don't go through both parts of the hinge, just the wider part. The wholes for the pins don't wear out on the narrow half of the hinge.
