my 70 challenger has the A01 package. I'm rebuilding my steering shaft from a column shift to manual and have a few questions about the light bar in the column.

What function exactly does it do?

is there a way to test it?

do I actually need it?

I ask because my replacement turn signal switch does not have the notch on the hazard button for the light bar like the old one.

Thanks in advance!

As indicated, part of the light package. Function? It illuminates the ignition lock when the door is opened, remains on for a minute or so as controlled by the time delay relay. On an E-body, would have a headlight switch title lamp connected to the time delay relay as well. The pictured ignition switch lamp assembly is ’70 only as I recall, lamp design was changed thereafter. Most replacement T/S switches are for the later design.
Testing? apply 12 volts to the yellow wire, ground the mounting, should light if the bulb is good.
Do you need it? it’s a convenience option to help find the ignition switch in the dark, it can be omitted if you don’t need the ignition switch illuminated often.

My biggest concern is eliminating an electrical item that will cause a gremlin when I install the AAW harness.

Thanks for the clarification.
