Anyone know what was done to my A833? I have a 3.55 8 3/4 rear end that I have been in to confirm and I am turning 3400 RPM @ 55MPH in 4th gear. I have 27in tires. Final drive of 1:1 should be about 2400RPM. So I figure I have about a 1.4 to 1 final drive. 1st thru 3rd gears are all low too. I have heard of over drive gearing, but under drive? Did someone change the gears so it would scream thru the quarter? Any advise on what it will take to correct? Thanks

Have you checked the speedo gear to see if it is the correct one for your gear ratio and tire diameter?

Thanks quapman. I checked the RPM with the timing light. Light reads 2600, factory tach reads 3400. The gears appear right so I have just been babying! It just sound like it is turning more. Guess I need some Dynamat and/or a 5 speed.

Thanks moparlee. Figured out the dash tach is off. Tranny is not original and my speedo is ~5 over actual. How much work/$$ to replace the speed gear?

Pretty easy job to replace the speedo gear pinion, 10 min. Just remove the speedo gear cable at the trans, remove the retainer clamp bolt and clamp from the adapter, then just work out the adapter and gear pinion. The plastic gear will have the number of teeth stamped on it. When you re-install the adapter make sure that you clock it correctly at the 6:00 position with the number of gear teeth that you are using. The adapter has a series of teeth ranges marked on it. You can pick up a used gear right here on FEBO for around 25 bucks.

I you have any leaks at the adapter, replace the two o-ring seals while you have it out
