Cassette player question

I'm bench testing the am/fm radio-cassette player combination. Radio plays fine. The issue is the cassette player doesn't want to play the cassette. I can get the green indicator light to come on, but the cassette player appears to have no power. No fast forward no rewind nothing. Any clue to what I'm missing?
Thanks

Most tape playing devices have a drive belt, can you see if it’s intact. After many years the belt on my turntable fell apart and it took me awhile to figure it out.

I've had enough with it today. I'll start again tomorrow by taking the cassette player apart and check. I've actually got 2 and they both are acting the same way. Thought maybe I'm missing a hook-up somewhere. Radio power on or off? To play cassette. I have no function at the microphone also.

one check, doesn't require disassembly, is to insert a fully rewound tape, play it for 10-15 seconds, remove it and see if it's still at the very end, or if the tape has moved some onto the empty spool. If its still fully rewound, my vote is also the drive belt.

Radio power: I don’t know, never owned a car with cassette. No mike function: Hmmm, makes me think it might be more than the drive belt.

Good idea. I'll try that next. Still making headway. Just figured out after you insert the cassette you have to push down on the face on the cassette player to engage tape to play. Duh... I'm leaning towards the switchover box in the speaker harness has to be in place. The "box" changes the ohms or amps to allow sound to the speakers.
Anyone whoever hooked one of these up would be awesome to hear from.
Thanks

The crossover box merges the left & right audio signal and feeds that to the center speaker. It doesn't "change" the signal. For test purposes you can eliminate the box and connect speakers directly to the units plug. If the radio plays fine (sound from all 3 speakers) it's not the box or harness. Here's a couple threads talking about that box.

Excellent-Thanks
I dropped off cassette players to professional. I'll let them figure things out. maybe I just need a drive belt from what I've been hearing from other threads.
