and i can't get the map light to power up. door switches don't trigger dome light either. seems like everything else works. Even 4 way hazard lites work. Anybody got ideas as to how to chase this problem down? Steering column connector is well connected. dash is installed/grounded

Was this a repo harness or one removed from a car? I removed one from a working car and everything worked fine when I was done.

Only the solid yellow wires at each door switch are the dome/courtesy lamp switching. Yellow with black tracer at both door switches is the ignition switch lamp time delay trigger. The third black wire on the driver’s door switch would trigger a lights on buzzer if so equipped.

The door switch complete and trigger the delay circuit to ground. In short check you ground at the door switches.

Thanks for the info regarding the map lite and related! the signal light issue is my biggest concern. This was the M & H repro harness as sold by year one. I keep thinking that i missed a connector somewhere but can't find anything obvious. i have power at fuse 8

i forgot to check , but was thinking that the brake light switch (pink and white wires) could be a good starting point. would it matter if they were reversed. either way , a test light there would be a good place to check. Thanks for reminding me that the brake lites are in the same power path. i will check that out after lunch.

MH harness have a connector as original harness ? OK the top black and white is a in-general diagram of how the most turn signal switches are configured. The second color diagram didn't exist until I made it from other diagram. Or at lest I never seen one. It is the pin out of the turn signal plug under the column.

Unplug the connector. On the car plug apply power to each signal wire. that you want to check

last diagram to show the dash side wiring with the steering column connector and the Turn Signal Flasher

By unplugging and applying power to each signal wire. This is a quick way to see were the problem is. Use power from Batt on the fuse box. Take note that is not fused. Use a test light to test. A light will have enough resistance if the is a dead short.
