I am converting from Auto to a TKX 5-Speed and am considering using the factory Auto shifter's gear indicator light as a glovebox light.

Maybe a mercury switch would work for turning it on and off. Obviously, it would only work when the headlights/parking lights were on unless I change the power source to fulltime 12V or switched 12V.
A bracket will be needed for the bulb but I am open to ideas on a factory light bracket that might work.

Also, has anyone done a console glovebox light?

Funny, I'm in the process of trying to do the same.
Simple to add the light inside the console.
I'm having trouble figuring out a clean way to add a switch to trigger the light.

Those have been replaced with thing a called a "tilt switch". Google it , there a bunch of different types and styles
New switches appear to be ball tilt instead of using mercury.

Might forget about a console light and just use an extra factory map light toggle switch that I have to put it in under dash on the passenger side.
Drop something? Turn it on and find it. 😁

Just some pictures for thought. To shed some light.
