Dana 60

Hey guys,
I'm wanting to swap out my 8 3/4 rear end for a Dana 60. People tell me to find one out of a different vehicle and modify it. Does anyone know if there is a thread on this or can someone explain to me what Dana I should look for and the steps to modifying it?? Thanks

A factory Dana 60 Differential for a passenger car would be almost impossible to find now a days unless you are willing to $pend lots of $$. The more realistic way( still not easy ) is to locate one for a truck. This was used by many different manufacturers. Here is just one of the many conversions that have been done.

If you want fresh and bolt-in....I'd probably go Moser. Lots of options for their axle builds.

Thanks for the replys. I'm looking at both options, not sure what would be cheaper? But let's say I buy one from a junk yard or off craigslist. Does it matter what it comes out of, ford, chevy, or dodge?

truck stuff can have the wrong size axle tubes, no pinion snubber mounting, etc.

Not really. Just needs to be for the rear. The front models on 4X4's have reversed diff mounting.

My car has cal tracs. So no need for the snubber! I take it it doesn't matter about the bigger tube size or does it?

No. The ends are changed for the backing plates and new bearing size.
