I am looking at a 70 Challenger that has a 383 matching # motor (N code on the vin) but is a JH Car. Could you get a 383 HP that wasn't an R/T?
Did they make any 70 Challengers with a 383 HP non R/T car

The E63 383 High Performance, with four barrel and dual exhausts, was standard on the Challenger R/T, and was available as an option on other 1970 Challenger models.
From the 1970 Dealer Data Book for Challenger:
S = Standard, E = Optional
A friend of mine has a very nice original 1970 Challenger with a 383 4 barrel auto with console and dual exhaust tips through the valance. It has a flat hood, is not an RT and says V8 on the front fenders so yes it appears you could get a 383 without being an RT.

Actually Vaanth’s document shows the 383 2bbl E61 was an extra cost option on the base model.

I had one I used as a winter beater in the mid-80's. Red with a red interior. Parted it out!!
Those were different times!!
I probably paid $200 for it and parted it out for that much the next spring.

One of my 70 Challengers is a 383 car, but mine is an R/T and an S.E. though. They were available as a non-R/T 383 also but with a 2 bbl. My buddy had a light green 383 2 bbl car that we of course put a four barrel on it immediately back in those days.
Ha, you guys don't miss a thing, Cuda Hunter caught that also when I first posted the tag decode sheet when I first introduced myself. It's actually Y05, the tag is pretty rusty, some of the numbers are hard to read. I'll have to redo the fender tag decoder sheet and not use the old one. Sorry about that. Anyways, here's Cuda Hunter's comments on the subject.
"When I compare the B51 and the C55 to the Y0 code it looks like the y0 code is actually a Y05 code. That is the build to USA spec and most tags have this on them. You will notice the cuda tag also has the Y05 build to USA spec.
Y02 is a radio edit waiver of which I can't say I have ever seen on a tag. I'm sure it is out there somewhere on a C body cop car.
That's awesome your challenger is a D21 4 speed car and FK5 is definitely one of the best colors on a challenger. Really like the C55 without having the C16 added on.
Also, the N41 without N42 is pretty cool also. A very sleeper style car."

E61 is a two barrel, E63 is a four barrel. At least for 70. There was at one time (1968 in particular) when there were two different 383 4 barrel. The Roadrunner and Super Bee has a 335 hp version (bigger camshaft and stiffer springs) and there was the 330 HP version in everything else. I could be wrong, but in 1970 and 1971 you only had the higher performance 383 (plus the 2 barrel version) in B and E-Bodies. Like I've said in many post, I learn new stuff every time I log on! And I think I'm pretty Mopar savvy!

Yes, I have one. It's a '70 SE "N' code.
