Double axle gaskets?

Working to reassemble axles after a gear change. During disassembly found two axle gaskets stacked between the backing plate and the axle flange on each side, for a total of four. These are the metal/rubber gaskets.
Does anyone know if two stacked is “correct”? Any thoughts as to why double stacked?

Yes 8 3/4.
The pdf doesn’t show the location of the backing plate.
Also, I should have mentioned there was also a white “gasket” between the backing plate and the bearing housing.

Normal is 1 metal between the hosing & backing plate & 1 foam between the backing plate & bearing retainer / adjuster .

Thanks for the confirmation.

I suppose I will reinstall only one on each side and see where that gets me. I still can't figure out why there was two--I never had any issues--but if I have any trouble with end-play adjustment I can always add them back.

Its possible that it was just a mistake either at the plant or later on.
