Went to verify timing on a new to me 70 original slant 6 yesterday. The distributor will not swing far enough to advance the timing. it hard stops at TDC or perhaps 1 degree advanced. Is there a procedure to reposition the distributor for more advance swing?
Is that even possible with the tower of power???
Thank you

My first Mopar and boy do I have a lot to learn...lol

Will do as I have a manual. I thought it might be factory, as engine timing calls for TDC. And would not put it past the factory, back in the day, make distributor hard stop right at TDC. lol

Food for thought. I had a 6 one time confuse me one time. Check the distributor gear wore out and shaft wore.

If you remove the distributor and turn it over you will see where you can loosen a bolt to change how much "swing" it has. It may be possible to change this to get you where you want to go.

So if the dist hold down bolt goes through this plate thats a factory limiter. I wonder why they did that???
Well I'll have a better look by the end of the week when renting a power washer and blast the 1/4 to 3/8 thick oily greasy sludge off the engine. I changed the cap and rotor a few days ago and came away with grease up to my elbows..lol
I live above my neighbors on the hill...They gonna hate Mopars pretty soon....
