Looking for a guy or business that can button up all the glass on a 71 gran coupe

Looking for someone, or a shop that can set windshields, and get all windows to seal properly. Never done this before, and don't feel comfortable doing it myself. All materials are here ready to go.

I have never installed a back window or front windshield before either. I bought some suction cups from Amazon to aid in holding the glass. I purchased the correct thickness 3M Butyl tape kits 5/16" and some 3M Single Step Primer, 08682, Black Color and one tube of 3M 08609 Window-Weld Super Fast Urethane Black Cartridge, Amazon sells both. I had a friend come over and help me install them (1st time for both). We test fitted without the Butyl tape to see where we needed to lay the butyl tape so that good contact was made on the glass edges and window openings. I know that there are discussions of Urethane vs Butyl tape and the pro's and con's for each. I used the Butyl tape because I don't trust the glass companies around me to be able to lay the proper thickness of Urethane so that when the glass is laid in, the moldings fit properly.

I watched a video of a man installing his windshield and back window in an E-body and the video showed me how and what not to do when I was going to do mine. I did read a very good article on one of the A,B,E bodies only websites and it was very useful.

Install the molding clips first before any glass is installed because you may not be able to install the ones that use screws once the glass is in. The factory "Body Service" manual has step by step instruction on how to adjust the door and quarter windows. Just a little patience and you will have those lining up, opening and closing nicely with no leaks in a few hours. Just have patience and as you adjust them, watch which way the glass is moving. It was easier than I had thought. I had never done that on a frameless window type door before either. If you've done most if not all other work on you car then this is something you can definitely handle.

It seems it never ends. Jumping through a hurdle after hurdle. Just burnt out with it right now. Maybe if I got a little help with it, maybe get motivated again.

I feel like you do at times with the burn out on working on my cars. The windows just take patience with the adjusting. A few years ago, the driver's door window broke on my Challenger. My insurance said I had to have the replacement glass installed by a glass shop for them to cover the costs. I took it to the shop and the kid there could not figure out how to install and adjust it. I sat there and did the installation and adjustments in the glass shop while he watched. He then said he needed to charge me full install price but thank you for the training. Go figure.

I would work on it after work on Friday and then a full day on Saturdays, if no family commitments. What I found when I got burnt out was I took a break, maybe a couple days, a week or weeks. Seeing someone else drive by or a TV show like Vise Grip Garage would sometimes get me going again. I rewired the whole car and it took 4 months because it was daunting and it really was burning me out so I would work on something easy and then go back to the wiring when I was motivated. I find now that I am driving the car and don't really have much to do other than fix this leak and tighten that screw, that I miss the time when I had all of it to do.

That glass shop is no different than most businesses. That is why I try to do everything myself. Maybe that is why I'm burnt out.

Just like terrywalker said. Pertly much done it him self. Good chance not going to find a shop that has a skilled person or even a shop that can get it in. If you find a shop that knows how to do it, it will be weeks until there is an opining. I would start with the rear window. It will give you a fell of how to do it. I did the rear by myself. Easy enough for one person to handle.

Set you self up for success. Have the correct thickness 3M Butyl tape kits 5/16" and some 3M Single Step Primer, 08682, Black Color and one tube of 3M 08609 Window-Weld Super Fast Urethane Black Cartridge.
1 mark all the clips where there at. That way when putting the trim on you know where there at.
2 Have the setting blocks in place.
3 test fit the window so you can see how the gap is from side to side. Two things have a way to tip the window to get a hold of it once its down. The other is have or make a spacer, gauge or good eye when you install. Then you have even spacing.
4 Put tape around the edges of the roof to keep it clean. install primer then tape staring at the bottom. Set the window on the blocks use your eye or have a mark where the edges are at so your close. it will slide a little if you lay it down easy. Don't press it down until you good with it.
5 when you get it where you want get it out in the sun if you can. When pressing down stay along the edges. You will see air gaps push where there not at. Just take you time. Check to see if trim is going to fit. What I'm saying the new glass is not a thick as the original.
6 Use the Urethane to fill in around the edges. If you have a bone tool to trowel the edge in tight. Spray with window cleaner before troweling give a nice tight finish.
The Butyl tape and the Urethane are two install methods. The Butyl is no longer used because it won't hold the windshield in an accident. The Urethane is what is used now.

I worked at a glass shop for a while. Back when PA was building the emission stations. 84 of them at 1 MILLION each in the mid 90's and never used!

Front windshield is new, back is original. Still not confident I can pulls this off. Looks like you did a great job on yours. Wish you could put them in for me, with my help.

I want to say if you or someone puts the glass in. DON'T trust the cheap suction cups. They do work but be ready if the do give away!
