Good day all, I have a 1973 challenger rallye that currently has 17” American racing wheels with air shocks, I want to go back to rally wheels with staggered wheels and some lift in rear, currently looking at 15x 8 w/ 4 5/8 backspace. My question, does anyone have this setup? How wide of tire will fit on rear without rub? 1st picture; what I have 2nd what I’m goin for thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum! Nice to have you here! What you have on now for tires/rim combo looks nice but what you want to put on looks even better IMO! I'm sure one of our members will let you know on the tire/rim size limits without leaf relocation and axle mods. :)

The widest factory Rally wheel was 7" if i ere going to do a stagger it would be 157 front and 15X8 rear. Remember that the wider the tire, the quicker it will wear on the front. If that matters to you.
Very few 15 " tire options today. BFG, Cooper, Mickey Thompson are the most common. 235/60-15 front and 255/60-15have no clearance problems at all and you really don't have to raise the rear. If you do, the best way to do it is with new rear springs with a little more arch to them.

Welcome to the site from Arkansas. As Leo says, the rear leaf springs are the way. I’m using 15x8 rear and 15x7 front. 275/60 rear and 215/70 front. The 275/60’s are tight but do not rub.

Fasjac that’s a great looking car & thanks for the input, that gives me a great starting point, I did kick around a narrower front rim, now you just help confirm!

Thanks for the info, I’m eventually going with the bolt on 4 link and upgraded front end with coil overs but for now I just need to get rid of the air shocks! They ride like gramps wood truck, if ya know what I mean😂

Welcome to the site from Michigan! Nice looking Challenger:thumbsup:.

You should also considering ditching those air shocks.

Welcome from Brampton, Ontario Canada.
My wheels are staggered 15 x 8 rear (255 - 60 - 15) 15 x 7 front (225 - 65 - 15) Excellent stance IMO.
BTW You may want to confirm whether or not to change your speedometer gear when you change your wheels. (Just changed mine when I changed to 3:55 rear end). Use a tape measure horizontally instead of the posted tire size. (I found this out the hard way) LOL
