My 1970 Cuda has been missing its original fuel cap since before I bought it in 1984. I have a generic Gates cap that works but is annoying to turn as it is a smooth dome versus the factory Stant cap.
The cap must fit the 1970-only 1-1/2" filler neck opening under the license plate. A reproduction is available and I have passed up purchasing one many times for approximately $85 or so. Quite a bit of $ for something so simple and down-right cheap for other makes and models of cars. A few months ago I decided to bite the bullet and buy one but it was "out of stock". Now it is available again but the price is now $127.
I am not worried about the factory-correct version with stamped VEN TED ANTI SURGE at this point.

Pictured are the factory cap, the correct repro cap, the Gates dome cap, and what may be a more reasonably priced $58 alternative with raised ANTI SURGE VEN TED.
There are tons of them on the web for far less $.

Does anyone know if there is a more correct-looking cap out there that works for the 1-1/2" filler neck? Maybe for a GM like the last photo?

I know we pay a premium price for mopar cars and parts. That just seem to be a bit excessive.

I think I'll attach a lanyard to mine. A small 1/8" hole on a tab would be reassuring. I don't think I could pay that much unless I really need it.
My luck I would drop it. It would roll under the car, across the lot, pass under a few cars while there moving, off the curb of the sidewalk onto the street as an 18 wheeler passes by. Then the truck would back up to look at my mopar.

Edit: The truck driver probably (Huskidrive )
seen the cap and knew what it was.

That is not a vented cap and from what I can tell, the filler opening's neck size is smaller for 1971 (1-3/8" ?) versus 1970's 1-1/2" filler opening.
It seems there is not much info documented on this topic.
We likely need to do some reference material and diagrams to aid everyone in the future.
I could start by photographing and marking up my original 1970 fuel filler neck opening.
Maybe you or others could take similar photos for 1971, 1972, etc.

My friend and I have been dealing with the same issue. As of today, we have not found a good replacement. We took the one I have that fits and measured the cap. See attached.

Everything we find is for a 71 or later small opening.

I had to go and check it. It is a 1 3/8". I did this a long time ago. Mid 70's. One of the first things I did is change the gas cap to a Flip up gas cap. This is the original cap. Just had to correct myself. I stand corrected.

Yes, that part number is for a Challenger. I believe @MoparCarGuy and I are looking for a Cuda cap.
