Single Wire Alternator

Are there any disadvantages to switching to a single wire alternator? I have to replace my voltage regulator and was thinking of replace both the regulator and the alternator. Is there one brand alternator that is better than others? Thanks

I have been using a Powermaster one wire alternator for a few years. If I remember correctly I bought the 95 Amp--part 75191 I think.

I went to 1 wire when I converted to a serpentine setup. It is a 100a chrysler style unit from cvfracing. Works great. Just be sure to have the correct gauge wire (ie 6 gauge) going to the battery since the OE wire is too small.

Is there a standard alternator for a later model one wire car that will be direct replacement for a '70 'Cuda 383? All stock electrics.

I bought a much more powerful single wire from Summit and love it. If you're not worried about looking original, I think it's a much better setup. I also did a Painless wiring harness so there's no old wiring in the car to worry about catching fire either. Run a bigger wire than you think you need.
