I know this sounds strange to be asked. But I am putting my ebody together that I bought in pieces and I have a question on what steering column hardware is suppose to be used., I am looking at my "guide to E body fasteners manual and it is saying to use the three white plastic spacers and two studs and one bolt. which makes three bolts altogether. I talking about just the bolts that hold the bottom of the column in. The bracket only has two holes for the two studs. I don't see how or where the white spacers would even fit? Do the spacers go on the top of the bracket then the steering column support washer go over them? Says shim as required? Where would the shims go? Any help here would be appreciated. I know how the white spacers work on say the a body cars but I don't believe they get used on Ebody? What should I be using? Thx

The column has two mounting points, the bottom of the dash and at the firewall. What area are you talking about? The two studs and one bolt with white spacers are used to mount the column to the dash frame.

Yes I am talking about just the two studs at the bottom of the dash. Not the plate to firewall or the retainer to the plate. just the Column to the bottom of the dash. Where do the plastic spacers go? In between the support bracket and dash? or in between the support bracket and theses big support mount washers?

Here's all my book shows I think they are wrong about the long bolt on the top left. My 69 barracuda has the there like this book explains but I don't see how the ebody would take three.

ok looked at my cuda the bracket has two holes to mount it to the dash. My car has a bolt on the drivers side of the column part A in the book, and a stud and nut part C and D in the book on the passenger side of the column. It uses shims part F between the bracket and the dash. It doesn't have any of the Part D washers but it would give the bolt and nut a better grip. Here are some pictures. Not the greatest but you can see what I'm talking about.

wow that means no white plastic spacer . So where you have the 1 bolt picture A you have no washer picture D. Just one stud one washer and one nut? You think your column may have been apart before? Thx for the help!

Not sure which fastener book you are looking at. Here is the page from the E-body fastener guide which shows the correct hardware for the column. 2 Hex Coni Keps nuts are all that holds the column up to the dash frame. No plastic spacers...

When I took the column out 30 years ago to restore the car it looked like it was never removed. I put it back the way it was. The Factory Service Manual shows a picture using 2 studs and 2 coni keps nuts like Grady Cain said above.

Holly crap. That's what I thought Grady Cain. I don't know why your page number and my page number are the same but different pictures and info. Same book I believe? This damn book is wasting my time with white spacers and no info. Thank you guys for your help. What the hell is up with my book. Waste of time

Only difference is that my book is Version 15. You have to remember to take these books as a guide and not a bible. I have found many, many errors in them. I have the E and B body fastener guides as well as the E and B body restoration guides. They do get updated but the pics you have in your Version 14 book look more like the hardware for a B body car.

this is the 14 version ,and I too have found lots of "errors" in this book and the other book from the them. The, judging guidelines book same crap! sometimes the one book says one thing then the other says the opposite! Being I bought the car in pieces I need to go through theses books sometimes . hence the time being wasted! Anyway thanks again! I searched the computer for pictures and info before resorting to this post and found nothing!

Tommie - I tried to send you a PM but your inbox is full. If you have specific questions on your Challenger regarding correct hardware, parts or other processes, PM me. I have been doing an extensive assembly-line correct restoration on my T/A (see my build thread) and have done tons of research on what is and isn't correct. I'd be happy to help with photos or other info - don't hesitate to ask!
