Good Morning, E-Body Members:
I was wondering about several up-coming events during this conversion:
1. Want to install aluminum Heads: Which head mfg. provides the best a 360LA?
1a. Another cost-saving idea: I also have 73 340 heads that are in great shape at machine shop. Would they work on the 360?
2. How many components can swap over during this conversion?

Thank you very much for your feedback

The 340 heads will work just fine on the 360. You will probably have to go to a weighted flexplate or a different torque converter, I believe the 360 is externally balanced.

As Heminut said, you'll need a different harmonic balancer and weighted flex plate. Also the Driver's side motor mount is different. Other than that, water pump, timing cover, valve covers, etc will work. And the 73 340 cylinder heads where the same casting numbers as the 360s - 3671587. Assuming you're putting in 2.02 intake valves and doing some mild head porting, the cast iron heads will do well.

Agree with above. Most important is to make sure that you get the correct flexplate/or torque convertor for thi swap.
You will also need the correct carb/trans kick down linkage for a 2 bbl to 4 bbl swap.
Here is a link to a very good book on LA engine. Educate yourself before you start to change things. It is always cheaper to only do things once.

I used the 3418915 heads on my 360LA motor and opened them up with 2.02 intakes with a mild porting cleanup. The motor runs very well in my 74 Challenger. I am pretty sure the 3418915 casting is very similar to the 3671587 if prepped in same manner.

The best Production heads are the 87-92 308 swirl casting , they make far more power than the X/J heads .
For Alum heads stay away from the Eddy heads , poor casting quality , not a lot of gain other than weight for the $$
