Jay, I offered the seller 40k and he said no. The car needs a total restoration. Disappointing.

Depends on his paper work, frame rails, fender tag, build sheet and extra parts.
This has been around for a while, there's probably a reason.
You're at 40, he's at 60.
He's probably a little high, you're probably low.
If the rails and rockers are rotted you may be right, IMO.
Hardest parts to find seem to be there.
For what it is, that's not a huge gap.
Its not a great color, IMO, no AC, 2 spd wiper, but if its a real A66 car...
Get the photos or info on the first line, you can see the fender tag in the engine shot - I know I've seen it somewhere on the internet.
If you've not burned the bridge keep communication line open.
I'd paint it toxic orange with a billboard decal and call it my goldfish.

Maybe 50k will buy it? It has been for sale for awhile. He posted some videos on Facebook. It needs a total resto. But from what I could see of the frame it’s good. It does have lower body rot. The brown kills it for me. I would have to go with a different color too.

If you decide to resale it after restoration, the original colour is important , it is a favorite colour for some folks, me, one of them!

Buda is correct, it is indeed worth more in the proper color.
I'm a Challenger guy but have owned a few Cudas.
There was a magazine article a few years ago with a gold, white, white 71 convertible that truly was a flawless gold fish.
I loved the irony and some day...
I've never seen that brown in person as far as I recall.
I might like it if it had some flake in it.
Here's a couple photo's of a burnt orange, burnt orange car a friend in Strongsville had circa 1980-5.
That's always been a favorite.

50k, 60k?....., if you have the wherewithal to take on a project like this, then make your wish come true.
Who cares if it is more than what other people would pay! Think about it as if you are happy that it's beyond the average person's reach, this way you will be the one who gets to own it.....good!
And here is the way you handle the "friend that might say its too expensive", tell hem I paid 80k for it because I waned to, how about them apples?

Buy your dreams, its the least expensive way!
Finoke, I wish you good luck with your search sir.
