This is on a 318 I am putting in my Cuda. Bought engine on Ebay.
Also I am leaning towards the Pertronix system. Want a sanitary engine compartment but it looks like there have been negatives about all the systems. Thank you.

The pictured distributor is a stock type single magnetic pick-up Chrysler electronic ignition distributor used from late 1971 through 1987 in non-Electronic Lean Burn or non-Electronic Spark Control applications.

Clean it up, and leave it as is with stock Chrysler, or select good aftermarket, parts. Upgrades could include a modified advance curve to match any engine changes, and possibly premium parts such as an alkyd distributor cap with brass contacts. Other potential electronic control units (ECUs) or ignition coils are described in my linked document.

Overall the factory system is very reliable , carry an extra ballast resistor of course & use a good quality 4 pin ECU , parts are readily available unlike aftermarket systems

The stock electronic ignition is very reliable. I've had no luck with that at all.
The Pertronix system, and the Mallory Unilite distributers are completely self-contained units. You don't need the control box or the ballast resistor (provided you have a matching coil). Distributer, coil, wires, that's it.
I've had good luck finding used Unilite units on eBay, clean them up, lube the shaft and run, they're built well.
