hello purchased some heads from a member here...after they were being shipped ,,was emailed by member that the heads have minor pitting that was just noticed but shouldnt be a problem...well after i got them i sent them to machine shop to get checked...they call me and tell me heads are junk...too much pitting and they have cracks by the spark plug holes,,also they told me that with seats were cut into each other, they are more likely to drop and cause engine damage....i sent a pic of invoice from machine stating heads are cracked to member and hasnt responded...prior to sendng pic of invoice member was told by mechanics that heads are good...therefore a refund wasnt possible but would send me some a list of parts to cover it???...and to top it off some of the exhaust holes threads are gone need helicoils...would you call this minor pitting??

Porting by mother nature... looks they would cost most to fix than replace.

I used to work as a machinist in a specialist cylinder head reconditioning shop and am now nearly finished a mature age heavy duty mechanic apprenticeship at an Isuzu truck dealership and can say a mechanic won't have the equipment or knowledge to check a head properly so it's really not the mechanic's fault. Mechanics diagnose the problem, remove the part and send it to a specialist shop for further assessment or if it is obviously junk just fit a new one. I think the best way to check these heads is to have them pressure tested. They bolt a custom made plate that looks like a real thick head gasket with no coolant holes and a rubber mat to seal it against the face of the head, then attach 2 small side plates to the 2 water passages on the intake flange one of these will have an air line fitting screwed into it plug an air line in and put it in a tub of water and look for bubbles this will show up the exact location of any leaks in the castings. They used to charge about $50 a head to do this I suspect these heads will leak from underneath those valve seat inserts.

I wouldn't spend another dime on these heads.

this is why I prefer to have photo(s) ( and/or detailed ones also ) at when buying anything ( at when you can not be there in person )

I was thinking of the cheapest definite way of determining whether these heads are repairable or not only because of their rarity if they were not T/A heads you would just cut your losses.

If you paid for them by check or MO, you could always go last-resort...and go for mail fraud.
