This is what I purchased. I guess I will have to see. I'm assuming the plastic pieces just snap in and screws are self-explanatory for each end of the insert, still kind of puzzling LOL

I am kind of in the same boat at the moment.. Hopefully , someone can clear it up for you.... It turns out that I have a grill.Installation kit... And a separate valance insert installation kit.. That is needed for my 73...

I figured out the valance filler on the 71. The reproduction piece fit great. The grill is another story soon to be told. Finished painting, getting ready to install the 20 pieces that go on it. Hopefully installation on the front goes well.

I think the 1972 Plymouth Chrysler Imperial Body Service Manual is needed until someones detailed pictures are provided.

I do not have a copy of this manual but would like one. I searched for a free PDF and have not found one.

I have a PDF of the '70 combined body and chassis manual and a PDF's of the '71 body manual, '71 chassis manual, and '72 chassis manual. The body manuals provide some details for the '70 and '71 grill mounting.

I tried searching through the free pbf manuals as well online. With no luck.

Lol i guess the mystery continues this picture was.\nSent showing that they use bolts.. And was mentioned that that they never would thought plastic clips like that would have been used..soon i am still confused lol

They sent those plastic clips with the 71. Have went through every part on this car. No plastic clips except for stainless trim. It is possible they used plastic clips for the grill. The grill is plastic.

Ebay seller had 2 listings - Chassis and Body manuals. I selected buy it now for both. After clicking, I noticed that while the manual pictures where clear regarding the different manuals, they both said "Chassis" in the description. Messaged the seller and he said he only had one manual yet I bought both listings, so he/she canceled it and refunded.....

You are correct.

It is not addressed in the '73 Body manual that I found on Internet Archive. I flipped thru every page.

Totally bizarre that the parts book and the body manuals do not show how it is connected.

I still have not had a chance to crawl under my smashed '72 to see how it is installed. I also have an NOS valence and NOS valance insert for a '72 somewhere down in the basement on a shelf.....

Well I did some more googling as this is really pissing me off!

We know that the metal lower valance is the same for a '70 and '72-74. So this had me wondering what the '70 valance insert looks like compared to the '72-74 insert and how it was mounted.

Here is a '70 insert and the familiar '72-74 below it. Note how both have 3 tabs on the back side and and a screw hole on each end.

So, this linked thread below provides details on how the '70 valance insert is mounted and has pictures of the original hardware. The plastic push pins are used to attached the plastic valance insert to the metal valance.

This is a picture of original '70 attachment hardware from that thread.

But in that same thread, a poster says that instead of the plastic push pins, that he has seen the insert attached via bolts with washers although the push pins apparently are more common on original cars.

Well, so then I found these pictures of damaged assemblies from '72-74 valances and look at the bolts.

And here is a snipet I put together from the '70 service manual. It confirms the push pins and calls them retainers.

Interesting that the manuals do not use the term valance and valance insert, and instead refers to them as "air shield" and "air shield trim", respectively.

The '70 Parts Book is also lacking in the hardware call out for the valance (called "shield) and valance insert (simply called "panel").

Truly an oddity...
