I currently have an old style ac heater control valve which is all metal. It has sat for over twenty two years without any water in the part. The interior looks some what rusty. It took me three years to find the part when the car was running. Finally around 1999 I bought the part thru year one. I'm looking to find the part again but the one I find is on eBay and plastic. Is there a better place to get this part or is ebay my best bet. Here is the ebay location I found what appears to work. 70 dodge challenger HEATER CONTROL VALVE - Search Shopping

The plastic/composite one is like the original to your car. Many guys will want this for correctness. The metal one is a replacement made by several aftermarket companies. Companies like Murry, Four Seasons, AC Delco offered them for years like the original, Hard to find one now, and as you see, expensive. Aftermarket has only had the metal replacements for years now. Some guys don't care, they just want a valve that works without care for originality.

Like the last time I replaced it I just want to have a functioning ac/heater valve to use with my air-conditioning. I bought the car in 1994 and the air conditioning didn't work. Being a convertible I drove during the summer I didn't care. Now I'm trying to get the air conditioning working with the rest of the car since originally it was a part of the car. I've modified the car alot from original with the engine, suspension and replaced the rear with a dana 60 with 3.54 rear off an original RT/SE that was totaled. If you could identify a metal one that will work I'll just buy that. I can clean the one I have up so on the outside you could not tell it just sat in the garage for over 22 years open to the air but I know.

I've cleaned up the old one which appears to be usable. Have bought a new original but don't expect it to arrive before I'm ready to start the engine. If the new one comes before I try starting the engine I'll just put that in but I think we will put the hot water lines in today. Got the radiator wiring done yesterday and most of the fuel lines connected. Just waiting for the adaptors I ordered for the fuel line to arrive. Trying to be methodical in putting things on the car but the excitement of having a running car after 22 years makes me push harder probably than I should to have it running.

The composite heater control valve was 70-71.
Prone to cracks in the plastic. leaks.
Look good when new,
Not very durable.
If you want it to work and also $ave. Purchase the chrome/ zinc plated later model.
Easier to mount, much cheaper and much more reliable.
All steel for good reason.
Just need to specify a/c or not

I agree with your comments but I can't seem to find the type you mention. That's why I bought the classic one on ebay.
