Welcome to the site from the Motor City!
In the family for that long without a title? No build sheet? Original engine or trans that would have the vin stamped on it?

well my memory of it all wont be the best as i was around the age or 6 or 7. but yes it was a rolling shell with no engine or transmission to speak of. it is a caged, tubbed, and back halfed car. it was sold bill of sale for off road use only way back then.
now the hearsay of the matter is supposedly it was a "4bbl 440" originally which would be cool. i know its an original automatic car, i know its original color is that bright banana yellow.

it came with nothing to identify it because it was nothing but a racecar back before these cars started sky rocketing in value.

The car could be a BH car also. You will have to find the VIN somewhere. Have you checked the DMV where your family bought the car. Even if they did not title it, the VIN may be in the system under a previous owner.

it was bought from someone in tampa... i remember the road trip to go get it. are the last 6 digits remotely usefull? from what i read thats the sequence number or in other words the order in which it rolled off the assembly line. could it be verified from something like that?

That 6 digit number is exclusive to that car. Your only option might be to go back to the point it was last registered.

Welcome. If you are trying to track down the heritage of this car, you are in for a long and probably fruitless search. At this point there would be too much work to restore back to OE condition unless the final value doesn't matter and this is a labor of love, which we all understand. If you intend to put this car back on the street, do not spend any money until you can get a clear title. Many of us have gone on wild goose chases just to end up parting the car.

Well I managed to track it down to the shop that put the cage in it and did the back half on it. The owner surprisingly recalls the car but they don't have any records that far back (1993)... Well it doesn't change the fact that its my dream car, or that it was my dad's car. It just didn't have that coveted pedigree, I am uninterested in it for its value, or the collectiblity of it. It's the closest thing to a family heirloom we have, my grand parents sold their 70hemi back in the early 2000s and this is the last car of our families. I just wasn't to drive it BUT if I can't drive it on the street then it is going to live out the rest of its days as the track warrior it used to be

The second picture is the last time the car was running about 6-7 years ago. Had an Indy 572 aluminum block and 2 stage mega squirt system. On motor it would clip the traps at around 9:30s... never could get it to behave on the nitrous. My dad was trying to get it in to the Orlando street car shoot out back in 2002 in the heavy street class but couldn't get it to go straight.
