72 Cuda Full Restoration; "Saving old fish "

Hey Guys, I'm about to go out on a limb and open up the wallet on a full restoration project; I found this on ebay in 2007 and finally getting some time and deciding to get this back to how it left the factory. I found this original Vitamin C Orange 340, 1972 Rust free California car on Ebay. I guess the tribute strips and pink color was what the previous owner was after. This is exactly how I got her. I will post pictures as I progress.
This will be a mostly all stock job.

That fish will look much better wearing its original color, can't wait to see how it turns out.

the body dose look good! you have a nice base to start with. i see a rally dash in the picture. that will be one nice cuda when it gets done. good luck

Any suggestions folks, once I get this back from the sand blasters, Epoxy primer color green or red is available to me. I was thinking going with red because of Vitamin C orange ; Maybe it will help with the color image and maybe even less coats orange required as apposed to a darker color primers; What have you guys used in your work. How many gallons should I get?

the etch primer is a first step, to protect from rust. some like epoxy primer because you can put fillers directly over it and it works as a bearer in between. dopont and sem make an etch that will do the same. as far as paint coverige your serfacer and or sealer should take care of that. i hope this helps, it works for me. another trick is you can tint serfacer urathane primer with some cheaper base coat tint. what brand of matereals do you plan yo use

Thanks for your input, I will research etch as opposed to epoxy then will decide which way to go. no preference of brand, I am open to any reputable brands

The epoxy primer does not really matter, the color coat is not sprayed over the epoxy primer. Epoxy primer will get top coated with a Surfacer primer that is thicker, but easy sanding. The car will need to bet block sanded (Wet) before color coat. With an Orange color coat going on, use a gray primer or have it tinted to orange, this will help with coverage and little scratches in the future may not be so noticeable. You are probably going to use a Base Coat/ Clear Coat BC/CC right? This means the car will be painted a minimum of four times.... Epoxy, Surfacer, Base, and Clear. Each time more attention and prep work, masking & sanding must be done.. $$$
