Another Turn Signal Question

Turn signals stopped working today after many years of trouble free operation. Four-way flashers, brake lights, everything else works. With key on I’ve got 12v on both sides of the radio fuse, 12v coming into the red feed wire at the turn signal switch harness. I couldn’t test the radio harness as it is not accessible, but I’ve got an aftermarket radio and am not using the radio connector. I jumped 12v across the red terminals on the two plugs and I am getting 12v out to the two green wires and two brown wires when activating the switch.

Am I missing anything here before I swap out the flasher on the ash tray? It does not appear to be easily accessed without taking dash trim off?

If you haven't altered the wiring, and if it was working fine for a length of time, prior to failure, my guess is the flasher relay. They ARE a mechanical relay 50 years old, or so. The turn signal switch in the steering column, would not typically fail in both directions.

If I put my head on the passenger floor, and look up, I can see the turn signal flasher relay on the side of the ash tray. It's very light weight, and only held there by the clamp with friction. Just give it a tug, maybe a firm one. Or, lift it out along with the bracket. Note in the image, the bracket as a little tab behind it.

Thanks @pschlosser

I noticed new flashers online have various current ratings, 10-20amps. Should I match the fuse rating for the circuit in this case?

Parts Geek has one that looks nearly the same, for just under $7. Shop around. But use an accurate search phrase, such as "1970 Barracuda Flasher Relay." I see them go for as high as $20, and variations include a clear plastic housing. Some even purport to be used as either the hazard or turn signal relay.

FYI, the Hazard flasher has 3 spade connectors, the turn-signal flasher has two.

Yikes, maybe I'm remembering wrong. I thought it was a three spade, and the three wires in the image of post #2 reinforced that.
Turned out to be a bad turn signal flasher. Much easier to access than I thought.

Both flashers are two-pronged, however the emergency flasher has three wires on the plug, two going to one lug.
