I have 15x8 4.5 bc . On my 74 challenger . I have 275 60 15 on them . They don’t fill the hole like I want . I want like a 275 70 but they don’t make it .

Any ideas ? I want taller more than wider . I’m happy with width of 275 . Just side walls look to small for this car.

Do they make a truck tire close to a 275 /70/15 ? I want this thing fill the hole .
Hey I have the same problem you have. The tire I want is a BF Goodrich 295 /50 /15, But my problem is they only make that tire in a 15 inch rim size passenger tire , I need a17 inch rim because I have add big rear disc to my car . I don’t want a rubber band tire real low profile , The tire I want is a 295 /45/18 aSUV tire. The wider the tire you want your rim size goes up and your profile goes down 45/40/35/30 , 18-19-20 rim size, I’m looking at Mickey Thomson tires , I want to do some auto cross so I want a High Performance Tire , not all tire manufacturers offer the size and profile I want and the prices are $250 to $ 500 a tire !! I’m going to rethink what I want, Good luck on your project Ray

Cooper makes a 255/70-15 and I have them on the back of my Cuda on 15x8 wheels. It's supposedly a 29" tire and it definitely fills the wheel well. In my case the offset of the wheel pushes it out to the limit of the fender. No room on the outside but plenty of room to the frame rails. front is a 255/60-15

Gzig5, those fit really well and look great!

I have Micky Thompson's, 29.5x9.0-15
Thanks. I like the look but it would be nice to have a 275-295 width. I'm currently in process of replacing both full quarters and will be trimming or rolling the fender lips before paint to maximize the available width. I've got a 66 B-body housing and 1" spring relocation brackets which should allow me to get a 305 wide tire on the back. Have a ways to go before I need to decide on the size. I'm hoping I can find something in 17/18" wheel but there is a much better selection in the 19" diameter.
I'd say you've about maxxed out what can fit in that opening.

I think it will look better sitting on the ground or at least jack stands under the diff as the wheels hanging down doesn't give you a good look at tire fit.

Here’s a picture of the BF Goodrich 295/50/15 on my Cuda w/15/10/ 6 1/2 backspace this rim has a center that slides in or out to see what size will fit underneath your car. That’s the look I wan but rear discs won’t let me run a 15 inch rim have to go to at least 17 or 18s

Like someone else already said. You have the suspension hanging, put the stands under the axle housing or put the car on the ground. Someone asked about the same non existent size ( 275/70- 15) a few months ago...
The answer is still the same, they don't make a passenger tire in that size. Period. Never will. The only way to get a taller tire that is just as wide is to go with racing tires. or truck tires. same answers.

They come in different sizing, like truck tires. 30" X 10". -15 or similar.
Or you have to narrow the rear, widen the tubs and then you are not limited on height.
Tire sizing is a formula.
It breaks down to 275 ( Section width in mm.) / 60 or 70 or whatever ( Aspect ratio % of tire height to section width) and the the rim diameter. So a 70 series tire is 70 % as tall as it is wide ( section width, not tread) and so on. The lower the series, the lower the tire height.
Or just lower the rear of the car.

Just remember what size tires were available when these cars were new... Talk about not filling up the fender wells.

I have always found the opposite , the 275 is too narrow & 60 makes it too darn tall , I went with a 295 /50 , with the narrowed diff 305-315 width should easily fit especially with a 17" rim

With the right offset you can get 295's in - maybe a little wider if the offset is perfect...
Here are 295 40/17's on my Barracuda:

I found this to be just about perfect for me - tire diameter vs tire width vs tire sidewall and stuffing the wheel well all in one package.

IS this what you were refereeing to? ////
OK, lets get a tire/tyre size combos thread started. Too many wasted threads about one topic.
Chryco if you or Ross or someone could sticky this topic that would be good.

Post what rear end you have, tire size, wheel size + back spacing etc
Also any mods or relocation kits that were needed to fit your wheel combo along with photos, definitely PHOTOS.

I'll go first:

1970 Dodge Challenger R/T
8-3/4 SureGrip

15x8" Rallyes Rear with 275/60 BFGoodrich Radial T/As
15x7" Rallyes Front with 245/60 BFGoodrich Radial T/As

Chrysler Rallye wheels: 56 Series purchased from www.jegs.com All wheels have a 4-1/2" (4.5) Back Spacing.
Rear trim rings leave a 1" gap due to the wheel being 8" and repro/OEM rings only available in 7" sizing.

No rubbing, no relocation kits, no worries.

Cheers,
NZ440R/T

Panther Pinks Combo:

295/50 R -15 with little clearance to the leaf spring. Fits inside the wheel wells though. Re: E-Body Tire Combos
« Reply #2 on: March 31, 2006 - 06:56:30 AM »1972 Dodge Challenger
Centerline Autodrags rims and BFG T/A Radial tires.
The fronts are 15x7's with 3-5/16" bs on 225/60/15's
The rears are 15x8.5's with 4-7/8" bs on 295/50/15's
******NOTE: This is on a stock E body width 8 3/4 rearend, I HAD to use a 7/16" Mr.Gasket wheel spacers to give the tires at least 1/2" clearance from tire bulge to leafspring, because all it had was 1/16" to 3/16" clearance without them. I also installed 3" long ARP wheel studs and open end lug nuts in the back, so I'd have plenty of threads for the spacers*****
***So if you like this look and want to use a 8.5 wide rim just find a rim with a 4 1/2" backspace and you won't need any spacers! Yet it will look the same.
It just barely touches the drivers side when I hit a big bump, but I'm still using stock shocks with re-arched leafsprings. If I added KYB shocks or rolled the inner lip a little or trimmed it wouldn't hit.

I have 275-60-15 MT drag Radials on 8 in ralleys now.. but i had MT 12.5 x 28 Street ETs on the same wheels on it before. Just had to use a half inch spacer Just put on new tires. Car is a 71 cuda--stock 8 3/4 rear with new espo 1" over stock height springs. To fit 275/60-15 tires I had to buy new 15x8 ralleye rims(from wheels vintique) 4.5" backspace. Front tires are 235/60-15 on stock 15x7 ralleyes. Here's my info for the 14" crowd:

1972 Challenger Rallye
Stock suspension, 8 3/4" rear end
Factory Mopar 14"x6" Styled Road wheels (Magnum 500 style)

Fronts: 215/70R-14
Rears: 225/70R-14 (a little taller and wider)

For the 14"x6" rim, from what I saw, the widest tire you can "safely" mount is a 225/70R-14 or a 235/60R-14 tire.
There's also a pic comparing the 2 sizes.

Take the tire size of the new and old to convert to OD diameter of tire. Google a conversion chart to do. Even though wheel size new is larger the tires are low profile. Disc brake size is why new cars use big wheels mainly along with looks. You might get away with the 18 inch new wheel and a low profile tire if off set is close. My 245/45 20inch Goodyears are 28.7 inch dia. Look up your old tire dia. It will be pretty close. 15" wheel with a bunch more side wall. A 205/75 15x7" Tire and wheel will fit 1971 stock Hemi Challenger front end. That tire is 27.1 inch dia, so on my 20 inch at 28.7 dia your about 7/8"x2 differance. Stock 18" Challenger 2009 tire is 235/55 18 at 28.1 dia. Now your at 1/2"x2 dia differance. Look up some lower profile 18 inch. That web site below will provide OEM tire size that far back. Its where I got info. Your turning clearance will be the issue I think if lug pattern is the same along with offset. With 18 inch wheels you can put larger brakes on the front also. Good thing. According to Tire Rack a stock 1970 318 Challenger did come with 14 inch wheels. Good luck.

Love this but you’re car sits pretty low for me . 255 seem too small maybe I’ll order and put nexy to my 275s

I have 315/60/15 Drag Radials on my Challenger. They are 30" tall and fill the wheel well on dia and width.
