Correct Stock Tips question 71 Challenger

71 V code Challenger. Putting in the ECS system. They don't sell tips. Doing search for correct looking tips shows many variations (aside from diam) from various sellers, ebay, etc.

Some look like 2 squares next to each other, some are rectangular (which looks right to my eye). some have what I think looks like a large gap between the 2 tips, some have long pipe extensions, costing all over the place. Some of the SS ones I've seen have a terrible looking finish. Haven't really seen chrome plated ones, but I've read they tend to corrode?

I'm looking for OE style 2" tips, that will bolt right up to the stock ECS system. Appreciate advice on vendors. Left Coast for cheaper shipping would be great.

I searched on the exhaust forums and in general and didn't find a thread....which surprises me. I would think this has been discussed to the point of exhaustion!

A follow up to this. I looked at the Accurate ones and they don't look very....accurate. They look like 2 squares next to each other.

The correct exhaust tips, for those originally equipped with them, do indeed look like two rectangles. note spot welds.

and are generally welded (not bolted) in place. To look correct, they will need the correct rear lower valance.

Unless you drive in wet and salty conditions (as on wet snowy roadways in the deep of winter) and with the heat often exiting said exhaust system, they do not tend to rust, in my experience. Age, yes, but not typically rust at the chrome tip. Many of us choose to not drive in rainy and snowy conditions, just out of habit. Unless the pipe is stainless steel, I could see it getting some rust over time.

They remake them in stainless steel, and I bet those are worth the extra cost.

Expect to pay close to 4 figures for originals or NOS, if you can find them. Aftermarket are in the $200 range. Several good names (mentioned on this site) sell their version. Some are setup for 2.5 inch pipe.

FYI, the reference to ECS may have little to do with the exhaust tips. Some may be confused referring to the exhaust as the ECS system.

A google search will give you a pretty good start. Even ebay may have what you're looking for.

Thanks for the reply. Almost everything I'm finding is SS. Not sure I've seen chrome ones. But to your point, they won't see much use, so rust won't be an issue.

I've done a ton of searching, which is why I'm now turning to you experts on this site. There are several on ebay that are 2 squares and look wrong. They are around 200. Classic, Dale's Cuda, etc., all have the around $400. But hardly anyone offers them in 2 inch stock size.

I was just stating that ECS does not offer a tip with their systems. ECS is one of the top exhaust places you can go for reproduction detail. From what I've read on this site, a comparison was done between them and Accurate. ECS was much more accurate (no pun intended). But they do not sell tips. The ones Accurate sell, do not look right to me.

There are 2 ECS company's. One is ECS Exhaust, which the current owner bought many years ago (from ECS) and is Chrysler licensed. The other ECS is where this exhaust business used to be, but now they just sell various items from VIN tags, to labels, etc. Yes, I've found NOS ones for 2K on ebay. No....

I guess I'm confused on the welding of the tips to the mufflers. Most of what I'm finding is that the factory clamped them. Doesn't matter really, because that's what I'll be doing.

Thanks. Yes rectangles. Your car is a painted top one? Cool. I had a 71 Shaker 340 R/T in that color, but vinyl top. I just to find some 2 inch ones.

It's suppose to be white vinyl (which I have), but when I bought the car decades ago, the vinyl was missing and I painted it white. And it kinda grew on me.

Installed with a Q clamp. Can be welded on.

The Service Manual diagram shows the tips installed with clamps.
Even Accurate LTD's diagram (colorized) uses the service manual diagram for reference.
The Q-Clamps do not look like the diagram but Q-clamps are correct.

Perfect. Thank you for that. I have the system sitting around waiting for parts dealing with trans, etc. I'm expecting it to look like that. I just need nice 2 inch tips. Like I say, even Accurate's look like square stock welded up. Maybe it's just the picture is not good on their site. But it seems to me they should be rectangle, not square shapes. I need to find factory dimensions on the tips I think. Or, I'm making too much of it. But there is a big disparity in pricing out there and after having plunked down more than I thought an exhaust system would cost and the fact that it is nice, I want to make sure the tips match it in quality and correct look.
