Do I have a 340 Rallye Challenger??

Looks like it may have had single exhaust?
I don't see a factory hanger on driver's side.
If so, it was a 318

That would be a really rare tranny! All the 833's I've seen were 4 speed manuals! 😜

My bad I'll own it!

The driver side rear frame rail is rotted out there but if you look on the rear seat back/floor you can see the hangers on both sides. And, the plot thickens. It’s is a suregrip rear end.

Behind the hanger straps is there a bracket that looks like this on the drivers side? Should have a backing plate on the inside of the car.

Passenger side similar but welded on.

As others have said without a VIN the car is a big gamble to put money into other than a drag car. Registration is going to be a nightmare.

You could find a complete 73 for much less money and time it would take to make this a driver.

With that being said it was probably a 318 Rallye car.

Just my .02

I don't see a factory exhaust hanger on either side, which is weird.
Those straps on there now are clearly aftermarket add on.
Sadly muffler shops just ran a lag bolt through the body.
Same was done to my car.

There is a factory exhaust hanger on the drivers side, but not the passenger side. That indicates it was a 318 car. The sway bar is factory installed. If it hasn't been removed, it should have one on the front that goes thru the K member and attaches to the lower control arms at about the middle of the arms.

I could be wrong, but in 1973, couldn't you get the Rallye package on both the 318 and the 340? That would account for the front and rear sway bars. But as correctly stated above, 318s got single exhaust and 340s got dual exhaust.

I've seen front sway bars on every E-Body I've seen except a few slant 6 cars. And most of the slant 6 cars had front sway bars too.

Regardless of anything else, without a VIN, the car is a parts or race only car at this point.

Yeah, there isn’t anything factory that I can see there and no reinforcements inside.

well I’d say I’ve been convinced to scrap this project and find something else. I think we’re making a deal on a good ‘72 not far from here. I appreciate everyone’s input!
