I am debating whether I should run my car with the original distributor or convert it to electric for a 1970 Challenger. Possible the first question is pros and cons of that conversion.

If one was to go with the electric ignition conversion, what are some good options to mount the extra controller box, any hidden options? TIA

I put a Pertronix in my 70 Swinger. Been in there for years. Just the simple version not the 2 or 3 models. Simple and effective.

I converted my ‘70 Challenger years ago using the kit from Mopar Performance. I wanted it hidden so I mounted the ECU under the dash and ran the wiring through the grommet for the windshield washer tubing. Some guys mount the unit under the battery tray.

if you want the car completely original that might be a concern, otherwise i don't know any (but others have way more experience than I and might have some)... I've used the mopar conversion kits and gone to MSD systems and never had any problems or regrets

I suggest going original ,Mancini has kits , Rev-n-ator has the best ECU ,If stranded at least parts stores carry parts .
Not a fan of MSD , too many problems .

Thanks for the responses, starting to see the benefits of both. Either way my car did not come with a distributor so will need to find an option. I also don’t want drill/modify the cowl/firewall to add electric, so I like the option of relocating the module.

Though expensive, I use the progression ignition distributor system. I have it on my 512 and runs great. Tuning the curve is all via bluetooth. Simple installation. You will need a better aftermaket coil. I use a 50k e coil I got from blueprint engines.

Converted my electronics to Pertronix's also years ago for my 340 ci. Starts everytime with a turn of the key. Love it. Also added a pertronix distributor to my 89 S10 running a 383 stroker.

I looked that up, its a little bigger than stock. Did you have any fitment issues?

None whatsoever. I am using trickflow heads and had concern with fitment. The PI folks said I could get it and if it did not fit they would take it back. You could contact them and see if they have any info on fitment with the heads you are using.

I mounted the ecu on the bottom of the battery tray. It gets good airflow there and is near the battery. I ran the wires (inside some black heat shrink) along the headlight harness and it is almost unnoticeable.

I also put a PI distributor on my 408 (360 magnum) stroker in my 70 Duster. I am using the male tower style cap instead of the female style. With that setup I also am using a Blaster 2 coil. Combo runs great. Not sure how much room you have between the back carb and the distributor on your 6 barrel setup. Definitely need to consider that.
