Im getting ready to install my new tank , is it easier to strap it in then install the filler neck , plus the neck in trunk gasket , here's my old tank , hope to reuse the sending unit but I did get a new brass float and sock .

I would install the sending unit (use a lock from Van's as they are thicker) and install the filler neck seal first. Then strap the tank in. Don't forget the isolation strips between the gas tank straps. Also, you should have an isolation mat between the trunk floor and the tank to prevent rubbing of metal to metal. What I do.

it may be helpful to read through the fuel tank install procedure in the 1970 plymouth factory service manual (FSM), which is an an easy download in PDF from mymopar.com and e-bodieis.org.

I was going to use the locking ring that came off the old tank , I did get the isolation straps and a new mat also , its super tight with this new gasket , just worried about putting to much pressure on the straps but with some lube I guess it should be fine .

Definitely install the sending unit and fill tank before installing the tank like @E-Body Products suggested. Make sure the J-bolts have nice clean threads (they got sprayed with undercoating from the factory. A deep socket is a must for the nuts that go on the J-bolts that hold the straps. And it's best to go back and forth tightening the two nuts together. I just swapped out fuel tanks on my 64 Imperial not to long ago and it's a lot bigger tank than the E-Bodies and it wasn't too bad!

Hey buddy , I am installing the sending unit first , was just wondering about the filler tube install , new j-bolts too , I painted the bottom with black under coating and the new straps are black too .

before the straps are fully tight, check the fit of the tube. but the FSM talks about the tube and the tank as two different procedures, suggesting the tube can be R&R with the tank still in.
