I have a '71 Barracuda convertible base with a 318 and I was wondering how I can increase performance without making major modifications.
Thanks

I do not know what you consider major, but camshaft, heads, intake and carb, and exhaust are all bolt on mods. I would consider a Edelbrock or similar top end kit and quality exhaust system.

If you must keep the engine stock looking the cam is really the best bang for your buck, but it will be hampered by the stock components.

As Adam said... they are all bolt on and, they can be easily reversed if you want later.
If your trying to keep it to a minimum, and you still have a single exhaust, that is the first place to start, just make it duel.
The second thing I would do is, just bolt on a 4 barrel intake and carb. These two changes will make a difference and, as you put it... not major modification.
Then drive it a while and decide if that's enough power or if you want to go with cam or even heads.
I don't know if you would consider this a major mod but, most cars with 318 came with 2.76 rear gear and, a change to something like 3.23 gear will make a BIG difference in performance Let us know what you decide.

just my 2 cents

I have some scans of pages from old Mopar and Hot Rod Magazines, suggesting performance upgrades for SB Mopars that you may find interesting. I can email them to you if you like. About 10, too many to post here.

If you put cylinder heads with 2.02 intake valves won't the valves contact the bore edges on the 318? I remember seeing a block (I think it was a 351c 4v) and from the factory it had notches cut into the top of the cylinders for valve clearance when the block was bored from std to .030 the notches were nearly all gone.

Air in, air out...let it breath.
Best bang for your buck, exhaust. ...

Also your rear gear ratio can make a HUGE difference. ..
