Hey all I have another observation I would like everyone’s input on. I just did a little experiment. I had another 402 stock pan in my parts stash and I thought I would see if you could put more oil in the pan than the factory spec of 4 QTs. I wondered if I could put more oil in the pan, then there would be more oil”available “ to fend off oil starvation later on if I were to switch to a high volume pump. I Put 5 QTs of water in the pan and there is still a 1/2 to 3/4” space left between the oil and the rim of the pan. Since I have a windage tray installed, the extra oil would still not be whipped up by the crank assembly correct.? Just thought i would throw that out there. What do you think? Thanks, I have been a little apprehensive about changing to the hv pump for that reason. I initially bought a larger pan from 440 source but it didn’t work. It was taller along the shallow part of the pan (also the thickness of the 2 gaskets and windage tray may have pushed the pan even farther down close to the drag link bar), and my drag link rubbed on the panso I think returned it or sold it. Went back with the stock size pan.
