Hi, I'm building a 68 340 with X heads, pretty much stock with a Eledbrock Air gap intake manifold. I was thinking the Holly 680 Brawler with vacuum secondaries. any input would be great.

The best out of the box carb I have found is the Street Demon. Very similar to the old Thermoquad in design with both bolt patterns to fit either intake flange.

Lots of videos on youtube about these carbs. I have installed several and I believe they are the best choice today for a stock or near stock street oriented car.

MY .02 I use Proform carbs , they are the best I have used . aorund 700 cfm or a bit less

Have you tried any of the Street Demons? Their triple stack boosters and polymer center sections are no joke. I prefer the 4150 style of carburetor like the Proforms on hotter combos. But the Street Demons just behave better on stock or near stock street combos than any other carb I have tried without a good amount of 'tuning'.

👍

Personally I would use a Thermoquad, but the Holley Street Demon is a great modern choice. I still think of Holley carbs as great race carbs, but suck for street use.
Believe it or not (I know because I had his ear), I was instrumental in convincing an Edelbrock regional sales manager to bring back the AVS!

I'm currently using a quickfuel 780 VS on my 512. Runs very well. I will likely put on a carb Cheater setup to help with the fine tuning. Put one on my 408 and wondered how I tuned without one!
