Are you going off of the door decal date in calling it a 71 ?

Going off windshield and radiator support VIN. it's a 71 according to the VIN. I did not do the body work. I rebuilt the motor but apparently as the story goes, the guy ran out of money. Already had the front from a 72 and when he found out how much the 71 fenders and grill would cost him to put back on the 71 (They were trashed), stuck the 72 front on it. And a 73' rear tail light assembly . It's kind of a frankenstien car. The only original piece is the 318, factory A/C, and factor front disc with PS. According to VIN, it's a 2 barrel, 318 from the Hamtrack, MI plant. Not sure with the price class of "High" means from the VIN though.

Ok..you got me. What's a JS car?

In 1970-71, non-performance based Challengers had a serial number that started with "JH"
RT Challengers with performance equipment standard would have started with a "JS" serial number.
In 1972 on, JH again would be a standard Challenger while the JS would have indicated a "rallye" Challenger.
That is why your VIN is important in identifying what type of Challenger you have!

Does the door retain its build date sticker or is that gone? Have a pic of the interior? Not usually a fan of black wheels but they look good on there

I like the rallye wheels better but it is YOUR car to do as you wish.
This car IS different. I have seen many 72-74 cars with 70-71 grilles and taillights but yours is the first that I have seen go the other way. Nice color. Welcome to the site.

Alright! Hope this is a new trend. I love the mean look of the '72-'74 grilles better than the '70-'71, personally. I think it's much more unique and cool looking. Maybe because I see the new Challengers with the '70-'71 appearing grille so much.
