Just wanted to say hey!
I'm a semi retired engine builder/Machinist from Avondale,AZ. (West Phoenix).
I just picked up a 72 Challenger that I built for a customer years ago, I couldn't her them sit on it in the garage any longer!
I've been after it for years and she finally decided to sell it to me as long as she had "visitation rights!" That includes street and strip passes once I'm done with it.
It's an original rust and bondo free Arizona car that we made into a street/strip deal. She was the second owner, she bought it in 1975.
I originally built a pocket ported 360 w/280 Comp cam, 650 dp, intake and headers/ exhaust, gears, 2500 stall, that ran mid 13s.
About a year later we went into it again: stroked/ bored to 392", street solid roller, full port/big valves, 11 to 1s, 750 dp, 4.11s, 3000 stall. Ran 11.67@116 thru the muffs on sticky street tires.
Scared her s--tless. Drove it on the street for 2 weeks, and wanted a mild FT Hydraulic 440 and 727/2500, 3.73 gears. I sealed and bagged the 392" and 904.
Now, I own the car, both motors, both trannys, gears, headers and all of the spare parts!
I did the roll bar, rear suspension, dual 3" exhaust, alum radiator, and fuel cell back then too.
I hope to have it de mothballed and running in a few weeks.
For Christmas, I bought myself aluminum heads, for both engines, and a 512 kit, single plane intake, roller rockers, aluminum pump and housing for the 440.
I think the 512 / 727 is gonna stay in the Challenger, and I'm looking for another Duster or Demon for the 392/ 904.
We gonna rock again!

I built the 440 for a different customer's 1975 shortbed. I bought the truck from him a few months later. It had the pocket ported 440, 2500 stall, headers, dual 3" exhaust, 750 dp, and performer. I stuck a plate system on it and made a hail mary pass on the 275-60 street tires, no roll bar. [email protected]. I was escorted out....
The Challenger owner wanted the motor, and another customer wanted the truck for a stock 360 magnum/4 speed overdrive auto conversion. I kept the plate system, she got bored and mothballed the Challenger, and it sat till this week when I bought everything.
I am gonna de mothball everything and put the plate back on till the 512 is done.
Since I bought a BILLET 512 crank, rods, and caps, its prolly gonna get the plate too.
i figure with the 275-60 R compound M/Ts i just bought, and the chassis work on the lighter Challenger, mid 10s will keep me amused till the 512 is done.
Lo 10s- hi 9s are the goal in street trim.
Then alum heads for the 392 and a plate in an A body....
We shall see.

If you could post few pictures or videos of the engine build. I also worked as engine builder/Machinist for a few years. In that short time a very busy shop, 2 generation business. it was the go to shop for heavy equipment Cummins, Detroit, Cat, and fill in with all other automotive and small engine. Wisconsin, Onan, Oliver. That's when I rebuilt my 340. For some reason I did a lot of head work. The owner said I was good at it. That Doesn't sound right!
Your experience and opinion would be of great value.
Funny thing the shop I was working at in the mid to late 70's. We rebuild a new Komatsu engine from an evacuator or dozer. I was told at the unloading dock it slipped into the water. One of the first ones in the country or in this area. I don't think the union dock workers had nothing to do with it.

Don't hold the 1 of 182 white Turbo T regals against me. I've always wanted a white one, after having 2 Black GNs (one new). Took me years to find a white one, over 4 YEARS to find enough parts to finish it, and I'm sick of it already! Idle into a car show and it sounds like a 6 cyl with an RV cam. YAWN! Even with the hood up, nobody knows what they are looking at, or how dastardly it really is.
Here in AZ, they impound yer car for street racing, and try to hold you for 24 hrs. too. So it's back to stroker bigblock, solid roller, Nitrous, and something that looks and sounds as bad as it is. And no one wants to race. And I can find parts for!
No pics of the Challenger yet, I'll take some after I get it cleaned up.
Also had: 2 Dodge trucks, a Lil Red Express, Demon, Cuda, Belvedere, and now the Challenger. I'm back from the "off brands."

Over 50 years!
I'm real old, but fast.....
I'll help whenever I can.
Grandpa said:"knowlege is the only thing you can give away, and still have all of it!"
Also said:"if a man made it, another man can fix it, if you are that man, you'll always have work."
I said: "if I can improve it, I'll always have work."

I am an engine builder/ machinist specializing in making horsepower, chassis setup and things go faster. I didn't see much on that here on the site. Are you folks mostly numbers matching resto guys?

No, we're builders too! This site is awesome, just not as many e-bodies compared to A, B, C-bodies! Keep in mind that GM built more 69 Chevelles than the entire 70-74 Challengers and Barracudas! You're expertise will be welcome here!

Built mine as well. Getting ready to do the front end. Smallblock 340, 436 and 444 at the tire with a six pak and a Hughes cam and Eddy heads.

Well, I bought: Big alum heads (gonna port them using my flowbench), off set roller rockers, 4.25" crank, 7.100 I beam rods, tallll single plane intake, big pan, alum water pump and alum water pump manifold, built 727 w/2500 stall, which should stall about 3400 behind this motor, thinking about a 272°@.050 solid roller, 3.73s or 3.90s, biggest drag radials I can fit, (springs are move in and spring eyes are raised already), and my 300 hp plate system.
Easy 9s @ 145? Car only has a 6 pt. bar w/swing out, but I can get one hail mary pass and timeslip!
Anybody got an idea what the 72 alum headed 440/512 Challenger weighs? 8 hole Welds all around. Also a pair of poly buckets, an alum radiator and fuel cell too. Full 3" exhaust out the back and p/s, p/b too.
Deciding if I need to go stupider on the motor...

Emptied out all the spare parts inside and trunk, vacuumed, washed, soaked underhood in simple green and hosed it down. Then prelubed oil pump for 10 minutes (oil looked good), oiled the rockers and valve tips, and it started! Just brake cleaner down the carb, but it sounds great!
M/C was empty and filling it and pumping the pedal about a zillion times didn't pump up, so a new M/C and booster tomorrow. Then I pull the foam out of the cell, dump gas in it and see if the electric pump and regulator still work. I will rebuild the 800 dp (let it sit in the soup) while other stuff is getting done. Oh yeah, new radiator hoses too cause a mouse (rat?) ate a hole in the lower.
It's only been sitting since April 2000, mebbie I'm lucky....

P.S. the 440/727 that's in the Challenger ran 11.17@ 119+ when it was in my half ton truck on the squeeze. Pedaling it thru first and second....
