440 Carb advice

Hello, It has been a while since I have been here. New Job, working more hours. A friend is putting together a 440 , basically stock 70 Cuda with exhaust manifolds, an Edelbrock Performer RPM, and prefers to run a Carter AVS. He currently has a rebuilt 700 CFM Carter AVS, but is looking at a New Edelbrcock Thunder AVS in the 800 cfm configuration. He has tried Holleys and Demons, all without satisfaction, so he refuses any of those carburetors. Do You believe this New Thunder AVS will be ok for this application? Thanks for your advice.

They are both fine... If he had headers, perf cam and wanted to run higher rpms then the 800 would probably be better; but with stock exhaust the 700 is good. He can spend the $$ on something else.

Edelbrock recommends a 650 or 800cfm Thunder AVS with the Performer manifold. Part # 1806 for the 650 cfm electric choke and #1813 for the 800cfm electric choke. Both excellent carbs for the 440.
 
I would advise you to steer clear of the Edelbrock 1411 which is a 750 CFM. It has a tempting price but its really not all that great. Stick with the series that Leo is suggesting. I did go with the 1406 which is the 600 CFM Verizon of the same carb and am happier with its performance, much better throttle response on my 440. So if there's anything I can say is don't overcarburate.
 
Wait a minute , the 800 is overkill when every 440 after 71 was built with a 800 Thermoquad ???
Personally I will never use a Eddy carb on any car I own but each to his own , definatly use the AVS 800 over the even worse AFB style , the AVS at least has the adjustable rear air door like the thermoquad
