Is this dent in the fuel filler tube supposed to be there?

Thanks for everyone’s answers. I bought on from Roseville Auto Parts and it also has the dent in it

Back splash. That dent makes it hard to get gas in the car, with the newer style gas pumps.
I saw that someone was making new filler necks for Mustang and Camaro. Does anyone know of a replacement filler neck that is compatible with the current gas pumps?

My original 72 'Cuda filler does not have this indent. It's round (tubular man) all the way down. $10 if you want it.

Is this a joke? Why is no one stating the obvious? The filler tube is exposed at this point to objects in the trunk. I seem to recall several times placing rectangular objects in the trunk coming in contact with the support on either side of the tube. The base of the tub often has scratches from these objects. It has long been my belief these tubes are dented from use, by objects placed in the trunk. It never occurred to me the crudeness of the dent was placed there, on purpose, at the factory.

Occam's Razor

What are the odds that a "dent" that is perfectly symmetrical both vertically and horizontally would occur on the fuel filler tube in the exact same location on tens of thousands of Barracuda/Cudas?
And, that the "dent" would occur in a very protected area with factory zinc-galvanized coating remaining intact?

Answer: Impossible odds. The factory filler tube was manufactured with this depression. During acceleration, this depression aids with preventing gasoline from sloshing rearward and upward through the filler tube to the gas cap. 1970 gas caps were VENTED ANTI-SURGE caps which could experience fuel escaping at the cap. 1971-1974 gas caps were not VENTED but the depression in the filler tubes continued, possibly through 1974, even though the chance of fuel leaking at the cap was no longer a concern.

1971-1974 owners should chime in on whether Plymouth removed the filler tube's diamond-shaped depression at some point.

EDIT: @DetMatt1 calls it a dimple. That is a good description.
