I'm looking at a tribute car and I have a question on the fender tag. I'm not concerned about the items listed on the fender tag matching what the car has now since I know it is a tribute car. The fender tag lists A31 axle package, but the car was born as an E44 "G" code 318 car and from what I have researched, the A31 axle package was not an available option on a 318 car. My question is... Could this be a fake fender tag? I haven't had my hands on the car yet, so I don't know if the body numbers match and are in place. TIA

Well, since it's a special order car "Y05", and if the salesman was willing to check A31 for a 318, it looks to be possible. They even ordered a Rallye hood with hood pins and a "Go Wing", plus chrome exhaust tips. It would be an interesting Barracuda convertible to see! Also, it would be interesting to know who ordered it. In short, it could definitely be a phony fender tag.

I agree. This would be a cool car to see if all options were in place, but this one just seems too far out there...

The tag you posted has all indications of being a repro tag.
The J45 - Hood Tie Down Pins, J54 - Sport Hood, and J81 - Rear Spoiler were not available options on a November 1969 Barracuda.

BH27G0B198087 went through Mecum in Harrisburg 2019 and did not sell. It is a color change car and looks like they were going for the Nash Bridges look but on a 1970 versus 1971.

The car pictures look pretty good and it has a Hemi in it. Hard to go wrong with a Hemi convertible!

MoparCarGuy has all kinds of factory documentation. So odds are, it's a reproduced tag like he says!

Great information. I am going to look at this car next week and am curious if the body numbers are there. Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge.

I would certainly check all of the VIN numbers on the car with the VIN on the tag. Radiator support, cowl, deck lid rail, etc. that should tell you if the car is complete or has been pieced together. Either way it's going to be a nice driver!
Good luck!

This tag looks too perfect with very, very little rust on the edges. My guess is it's a repro tag. I've seen some repro tags with strange options on it (such as the A31 here), showing options that couldn't have been on that particular car or a code was not in the correct position on the tag. Plus like you said, the A31 axle package was not available on a 318 car but Chrysler did some bizarre things back then. Since it's a tribute car and you're ok with that, I wouldn't worry about the tag or the options on it. Good luck with the car!

check all of the VIN numbers on the car with the VIN deck lid rail, etc.
Was just kinda correcting without calling a man out. It's all good.
As I understand it, B bodies have the vin stamp on the deck lid rail.
Do A bodies? Or C bodies? I've not heard that so I think not.
@Cuda Hunter What did you mean by "deck rail"?

Duster/Demon/Dart Sport don't have a hidden VIN on the trunk gutter under the weatherstrip. Those particular A bodies have a hidden VIN on top of the package tray. You can take the back seat out and remove the cardboard trim and find that number usually more towards the drivers side near the speaker hole. I can't say for sure about the other body styles of A bodies or C bodies. I do know that B bodies had a hidden VIN under the trunk weatherstrip. My former Superbird had one there, plus another one on the rear crossmember that the back bumper bolts to.

I have notes on the Challenger with some options, specifically the A66 Challenger which was not an RT but coded JH; The rear spoiler became available on a JH 340 Challenger (J81) in early November 1969. The "longitudinal tape stripes" on the JH 340 Challengers were made available on February 12, 1970. Not sure if these options were also made available on the Barracuda/Cuda at the same time? Just my thoughts!

The A66 Challengers are rather unique in they where not R/Ts being JH cars, but had most of the R/T upgrades! 340Challconvert is the resident expert on A66 cars! Odds of a 318 car getting all the goodies listed on the fender tag are pretty dang slim even if they were available at the earlier date.

The J54 - Sport Hood was announced as available on the 1970 Barracuda (BH) models on November 25, 1969 which was two days before Thanksgiving Day (11/27/69). The sport hood and additional colors on the color-keyed racing mirrors became available on December 15, 1969.
The J54 - Sport Hood would likely have shown up for mid-December production. That means a Barracuda (BH) model with a standard 225 6-cylinder could have ordered the sport hood for mid-December production.

The V6X stripe was announced on April 3, 1970 for May 1st production in a Barracuda (BH) model along with L34 - Road Lamps availability. Be aware that the V6X stripe which mandates an engine callout of "340", "383", "440", "440-6", or "HEMI" would have been limited to only the engines that could be optioned on a BH-coded Barracuda. That would be limited to the optional, extra cost 383 2BBL/4BBL for the hockeystick stripe.
No 340, 440, 440-6, or HEMI engines could be ordered in a Barracuda (BH) as they were only available on the Cuda (BS) model.

Now we need to have anyone out there with a Barracuda (BH) respond with documentation showing their car was equipped with a standard 225 engine or optional 383 plus any of the below options:
J54 - Sport Hood (For BS & BH models and required J45 - Hood Pins in 1970); Very common on 318 Barracudas with no hood engine emblems but are there any 225-equipped Barracudas with an optional Sport Hood?
J81 - Spoiler, Rear (Pricing sheet below shows the J81 would be optional (E=Extra Cost) on the 383-4BBL only)
V6X - Hockeystick stripe (Black-only) with "383" callout.
