Does anyone know why GY3 Citron Yella/Curious Yellow was only available for the one year 1971?
Opinion, hearsay or Chrysler factoid welcomed.
Thanks Steve

One popular theory is there was a Swedish soft **** (at the time) movie "I am Curious Yellow" that inspired the Plymouth color, Chrysler got some flack so they discontinued Plymouth Curious yellow, and with it went Dodge's Citron Yella.

Hazardous/Controversial Nature: While not a chemical hazard, this erotic, politically charged art-house film was the subject of a massive censorship and obscenity battle. Seized by US Customs and banned by several classification boards, the ensuing legal dispute went all the way to the US Supreme Court.
  • Controversial Name: The color name was a nod to the 1967 Swedish erotic drama "I Am Curious (Yellow)," which was initially banned in parts of the U.S. due to obscenity. [1]
  • One-Year Wonder: Because of the controversial association, Chrysler dropped the color after only one model year. [1]
  • Extreme Rarity: Experts estimate that less than 0.5% of all Mopar vehicles were ordered in Curious Yellow, making surviving original models incredibly rare and valuable. [1]

Colors run in trends. Chrysler already pushed the color trends with more vibrant colors than Ford or GM.
Look at ford and their lime green, or grabber orange. Much more muted then Tor Red or Lemon Twist, or Sassy.
71 was a last gasp of greatness, with 72 colors turning brown or more pastel.
It fits with the social economic pattern of color and political mood in the country.
Colors repeat in popularity, in fact colors can have the same formula 20 years apart.
