I plan to redo the wiring on my 70 challenger. I'm going with American Autowire. I know behind the dash will be the most labor intensive and likely the most painstakingly part. I'm considering starting with the rear and front harnesses to chip away at the project.

Any idea if the original harnesses and new can be connected to one another? is it safe to have new and old wiring?

What autowire kit are you planning on using? Unless it is an OEM style harness your plan is not going to work well due to how the various sub harnesses connect to the bulk head connector. However with that said, if you are going to use a OEM style harness, then you certainly could replace the engine harness, the headlight harness as well as the taillight harness.

sub harnesses will not plug into American Auto wire kits , you can add the plugs from the original harness for switches & lights etc
