I’m a long time owner and collector. 70 Challenger convertible has been in the family since 71.
Under going a full restoration.

Welcome from New Jersey
Challenger convertibles are always cool.
I have a 70 Challenger A66 convertible I am working on now. Owned since 1979, so yours has been in the family longer!
Looking toward to seeing pics of your resto.

It’s a318 car but had parted out a R/T SE in the early 80’s so I have all the R/T stuff. Original engine was replaced in the 70’s. Going with a 340 for now.

Car has a strange history, when my Dad bought the car it had a replacement engine. But for some reason they put a 340 instead of a 318. Dealer told him that’s what the factory sent as a replacement so they put it in. So the car will be the same just with the bulge hood and rear valance. We had to replace the 7 1/4 rear end twice finally put a 8 3/4 and upgraded the trans from a 904 to a 727. The 340 was to much for the those. Car had a lot rot in the back half due to us living in Wichita before we moved to Texas so both quarters inner wheel wells rear seat pan trunk pan and lower foot wells had to be replaced.

Ok I need some opinions.
The car was originally E5 Bright red
My Dad thought it was R6 Red.
Finally found the fender tag and confirmed E5.
Well the shop started painting the doors hood trunk R6.
Now I’m at a crossroads do I spend the extra money to have it painted the correct color, around $2500 if not more.
Or keep it the wrong color.
Spending the extra will cut into budget to have or buy other parts.

What color do you prefer? Do you plan on keeping the car or selling? That's a tough call for sure but I normally like to see them stay original as possible.
Paint looks great btw..

Think your right the color is darker in person. Desicion has been made it will cost $2000 but I think it will be worth it.

Did the paint shop make a mistake in the color they were supposed to paint it, or had they already started before you figured it out? Seems like to me if they painted it the wrong color from what you told them then they should correct that without any cost to you.

They started painting before we found the tag but we did tell them we thought it was R6.

I like it like it is, would probably be a little tough tell if there wasn't a r5 sitting next to it
