'Hello Everyone,

I recently saw this listed on ebay and was not sure if it was worth the asking price. I thought I would ask the enthusiasts on this great site to give me a more exact figure on the car. The seller had a Buy It Now of $198,630.00 or best offer. However there were no offers made.

Here is what it looked like on ebay:

One of the most desirable high impact color combination, GY3 Curious Yellow with White and Black Interior, White Top. Very rare Special Handling Public Relations Car with a very high quality show car rotisserie restoration. This car is in #1 restored condition. One of very few original Big Block e-body convertible with original sheet metal. Rust free original California e-body convertible.

This car is one of THE MOST DESIRABLE EXAMPLES IN EXISTENCE, due to the color, options, and special circumstances of its production and history. Two build sheets and Galen Govier full visual inspection. All numbers matching and options on the car match the two build sheet and two fender tags, nothing added. Very rare factory black billboard big block convertible. Two fender tag car loaded with rare factory options. Restored in 2004 but driven less than 500 miles since restoration. This car should be in a Car Museum, not on the road.

383, Automatic, Curious Yellow, White Top, White and Black Interior, Black Billboards, Front/Rear Rubber Bumpers, Color-Keyed Grille, Road Lamps, Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes, A/C, Buckets/Console, Power Top, Rallye Gauges, Rim-Blow Steering Wheel, 6-Way Seat, AM/FM Stereo, LH Remote/RHManual Dual Painted Racing Mirrors, All Tinted Glass, Performance Axle Package (3.55 Sure-Grip, etc.), Light Package, 3-Speed Variable Wipers, Heavy Duty Cooling with Hemi Radiator, and the list goes on! THE OPTIONS ON THIS VEHICLE PRICED IT OUT HIGHER THAN A HEMI CUDA CONVERTIBLE AT THE TIME, $5,200+.

THIS CUDA WAS BORN LIKE YOU SEE IT AND IT IS PROBABLY THE BEST RESTORED 383 CUDA CONVERTIBLE IN THE WORLD!

For the 1971 model year, there were only 128 Cuda Convertibles built with the 383 Super Commando engine for sale in the U.S. Of these, 87 were equipped with the Automatic Transmission. Including all engine types (340, 383, 440-6, 426 Hemi) and exports, there were only 374 Cuda convertibles built for 1971 (292 for the US), with around 210 of the 374 total known to exist today. There are approximately only 90 of the 1971 383 Cuda Convertibles known to exist today. Counting all 292 US Cuda Converibles built in 1971 cars, only 31 were GY3 Curious Yellow. There were no GY3 Hemi convertibles built, only one GY3 440-6pack convert, the remaining 30 of them had either a 340 or 383 engine most were equiped with 340's. Around 14 of them had 383's. Only two of these vehicles are coded for factory Billboards, and only ONE has a white interior (this one). 80% of ALL 'Cudas had black interiors, less than 10% of them had white interiors. This is probably the ONLY 1971 'Cuda Convertible 383-Super Commando in Curious Yellow with a white interior, and Black Billboard. Very few High Impact Color Big Block Cuda Convertibles were built. Curious Yellow was available only in 1971.

The Galen Govier Detailed Inspection Report gave the car an overall Grade of 1.4, one being perfect and 6 being the worst. I corrected some of the items, such as replacing the spare tire. One other interesting thing in the report is a factory mistake that was noted. The car is missing the rear torque boxes. Did it have anything to do with the Special Handling and the PR use of the vehicle?? Who knows! But probably just an oversight during the build!

If you are looking for a very rare perfect condition factory 71 Cuda Convertible without spending over a million dollars here is your chance to get one.

I will consider only e-body convertible or Viper trades plus lots of additional cash.

This is a shocker to see. I have to admit, I didn't realize the rarity at the time.
I haven't seen this car in several years. I started restoring the body of this car (for someone else, not mine) in the fall of '03, finished in '04. It is the real deal as represented in the ad. The hood had been bumped in the front in its past and was in need of some TLC, but otherwise it was a very solid car, with minimal rust. If I remember correctly, the grill was not original and had a different color under the yellow.
The paint is a DuPont base/clear.
It's one of several 70-71 'Cudas I've done, and is the best one I started out with. A very nice example for ’71.71 hood.jpg

Found a pic. of the hood. Note the holes drilled along the front, which I welded shut.

The asking price is ridiculous but it makes me feel good about my 383 vert. I hope he gets his asking price...
