The shifter shaft seal on my 74 Barracuda is leaking. I have been told that this can be replaced without dropping the tranny, but I'm not so sure. Doesn't seem to be enough clearance on top to align the new one and tap it in. Has anyone done this and if so can you give step-by-step instruction? Thanks.

thats how I did mine, I dropped the pan and valve body which made it easier though. You can do it with the vb, just need a pick to get the old seal out and an long style socket with a clamp to get the new one in. Also there is a seal on the inside of the selector shaft that can leak between the kickdown shaft and the selector shaft, an E clip retains it, again, it can be replaced in place but can be fun to do.
