Tubular K Frame IFS

Hello guys, I'm looking for input on a front end upgrade I am doing over the winter.

Choices: Control Freaks IFS or Alter Ktion

Coil over with Tube K member & rack & pinion, Has anyone used either unit, does anyone know of any body fabing the same type of unit. (I know Control Freaks copied AlterK) Frankly I'm leaning towards Control Freaks, I think the round tubing would be stronger than square

I do not like the Magnum Force set up.

The car is a pro street 73 Cuda with a Hemi, using a motor plate

With all that weight up front, you probably will not want rack and pinion steering for the street. Ok for the strip but not really optimal for cornering at speed. The rack & pinion conversions are using a lighter duty unit that what comes on the newer vehicles from the factory.

I have not driven the car yet but the fitment on the alterkation is real good. It has mustang rack, control freaks was not avalible when I bought this. From the research I did RMS was the best and Bill there is a good guy Rick's_Challenger_042[1].jpg

I think if you do some research, either at the shows or here on the net, you're gonna find the AlterK to be the best bang for the buck. (Personally, my money's going to XV, but I digress.)
 
Thanks Guys for your input, From an enginering stand point as I stated round tube is stronger than square. The XV does look like it has to work well but the cost is outrageous, with brakes your close to 7K. Control freaks is a little over 5K with wilwoods (still a lota dough). Any way thanks again for your opinions. This just might be my Christmas present to myself.......LOL
 
I bought the rms for my 73 cuda highly recommend.
 
Cuda Rack & Pinion installed.jpgCuda Front Rails w?Rack Installed.jpgI used a CAP Automotive now owned by QA-1, it is a tubular manual rack & pinion (they make power systems also) it uses the torsion bars and does not change the wheel track, I have in on a 70 Cuda. I used Wildwood solid disc brakes & Afco sway bar QA-1 single adjustable shocks

Hopefully, CAP has come a long way in quality. Do a google search on 'em and you'll find several threads on the internet (more than a few over on FABO) with welds breaking, etc.
 
Thanks for the info, now I am concerned, I did a search as you suggested, there were some mixed reviews. I am stuck now, I bought this IFS in 2009 the car is not on the road yet, the mechanic hasn't finished the motor. The block has been stuck at the machinist, once I get in broken in I will have it checked thoroughly, hopefully the first holeshot doesn't shred the welds
 
I have an Alterkation on my A body. I love it except for the 15 inch front wheel limitations. 20k of my setup no problems

I think that is over simplifying the case. Square is stronger when similar size is used, but is much heavier; round tube is stronger by similar weight because it is a larger diameter...or so I've read. Either will be fine, used in a front suspension...
