Hey all, the drivers window on my 73 cuda does not roll up evenly. The front of it rolls up fine, but I have to pull up the back of the window to get it close. I haven't tore into it yet, but does anyone have ideas on what the likely culprit is?

Thanks,

Kansan

It could be a lot of things , slides not greased / sticking , slider broken in the track , adjustment of the rear plate , worn parts etc .

Check in the factory shop manual for door adjustments. And while your inside the door, make sure everything looks good and not worn or broken. And lube everything up well with grease. (Side note: I always look like I got in a fight with a wildcat after working in car doors and hate going inside more than once!)

I know the feeling, I'm not as young as I used to be. A good long-sleeve shirt is a must.....

I found the problem....the plastic (or whatever) roller that goes back on forth on the scissor arms fell off. I've ordered a rebuild kit and now just have to figure out how to get the window out. I'm sure it will be a pain.

You can remove (and repair) then reinstall the window regulator (scissor arms) without removing the glass itself. Use duct tape to hold the window glass up once the regulator is removed. My arms ache just thinking about it!

I really need to clean up the tracks. I believe I have access to a media blaster on base, but thanks for the info.

Like I said in my first post, might as well go all the way and remove everything and fix or replace anything that needs it. Don't want to go in there more than once! 🙂

Well, I finally got the right part. After two window kits (73-74) and (70-72) I realized even though there are rollers for the lift channel, the parts I needed were in the 70-72 kit I received today and were "sliders" as opposed to "rollers". I post this only to maybe help someone in the future. I had to cut the post with a Dremel, then peaned the replacement part. I only had one end bad, but am going to replace both on this side of door.

You can remove (and repair) then reinstall the window regulator (scissor arms) without removing the glass itself. Use duct tape to hold the window glass up once the regulator is removed.

Well, I didn't use duct tape to hold the glass up, but I do have these handy vise grips from Lowe's with rubber feet.

The "roller" was the remaining one I removed from the driver's door. The rectangular "slider" is what I installed from the 70-72 kit. I cut the old one off with a Dremel and peened the new one on with a BFH. It worked and no one else in my lifetime will ever look inside the door. Not sure what year the driver's door is, as it has old blue overspray under the door panel. There are tell tale signs my car was hit on the left side at some point....

I just found this thread, which is great because it is so recent. I am working on my 73 Challenger's interior and I am realizing that, while my doors were treated with anti-rust coating inside while I had it in restoration, the window regulators and tracks are incredibly dirty. Also, the passenger side window is hitting the door frame near the mirror as it comes up. It seems to be tilting too far to the right; not sure why. I sprayed some white lithium grease into the tracks but it is not helping with this. I have the body service manual and some diagrams I downloaded, but I have removed the window hardware on my previous Challenger and it was no fun - and I never had the chance to replace it before I sold that car for parts. Has anyone posted on adjusting the windows? I actually need to pull the glass (or lock it in the up position as you all did here) and pull out the regulator for cleaning, but it would be good to get a feel for making the adjustments. Looking at the bottom of the door, it looks like the front track is bolted down all the way to the outside (or right). Thanks for any suggestions. Kansan, I hope your windows are working well now.

This document talks about adjusting the E-Body window in and out. Hope it helps....
