Front disc installation

My 71 barracuda has 4 drums original. What suggestions about converting front with disc brakes. Is original equipment available? Or should I go with aftermarket? Just don't like the 4 drums the way is stops.

Very nice, lots of good info.
I just fought a "no pedal" issue for 2 weeks, what a nightmare.

I just finished a complete brake line replacement on 11 Dakota. Complete component replacement with the exception of the master cylinder. Here again copper nickel line.
Bought new stainless steel flair nuts 10mmx1pich. Could not use them. Chinese product. Ender up reusing the old flair nuts. Never goes as smooth as one likes. If you ask me. The world went to hell in a hand basket when the USA went from STD to Metric. I understand the rest of the world was using metric. It might be better...

LOT to get the car stopped? No matter what you put on the the back the front does most of the work. Master cylinder not working? proportioning valve not working? Back wheel cylinders not working?Front brakes working?Or just need bleed?The Engineers already done the the work.do the maintenance.Or upgrade to a larger front rotor.

There are complete aftermarket disc kits available that will work well. I would recommend doing fronts only.
One important note: from what I understand, most of the aftermarket kits are based on the 72-74 E-body front disc brake setup. They will fit on a 71 as a complete kit, but in the future you have to remember 72-74 if you want to change parts. If you want original 71 setup, you have to find the parts yourself (spindles, brackets, caliper, etc.).

I think that Dr Diff has a Mopar based conversion using stock, replacement parts.
73 and up is what you want. Bigger bearings option for bigger rotor

FMJ / Volare , 5th ave bolt right in , obviously you need a different master + a proportioning valve
Scarebird has some very cheap options using easy to get parts
Dr Diff also has Mopar solutions

What would be ideal for me would be original 71 front disc brakes. But afraid of the cost. I haven't done any research on after market. Just need more input.

I would be more afraid of not having enough braking power when needed. If you read through the the Brake issues that I posted. There is a lot of information there from others.

I think that is the most practical and inexpensive way. If I recall the is a bushing option for drum spindle to use the rotors. That is if you want to retain the 14" wheels.

If you go with the larger rotors you need 15" wheels.

Don't want to buy new rims, and tires. It is not an urgent replacement.

Disco-O--Tech is the Mopar Bible for disc upgrade.
Used that to do my swap years ago.
Unfortunately good used spindles are gone, but aftermarket is available.
And everything else needed is available at local parts store or RockAuto.
