I pulled off the heat shield for the muffler and behind it I can see some rot on the frame not much but it`s gonna need to be fixed. My question is how thick should my patch metal be.I have some 22 ga. cold roll steel but it seems a little thin too me.What should I use 16 gauge or even thicker than that?

I'd go a minimum thickness of OE, which is, I believe, 16 gauge. That 22 is definitely too small to use.
