Pre-oiling before first start trick

Went to True Value and picked up a paint stirring rod for about $15. Same hex size as the oil pump. Cut off the "stirring" end, sanded off the paint for the oil pump end, and it's the perfect length. They have these at Lowes and Home Depot also. Cheaper alternative. Cheers!

When I was younger I worked at a salvage yard and 90's ford taurus's automatic transmissions have the exact shaft. It just slips in behind the torque converter. A core transmission donated it to me.

Great inexpensive ideas. I bought a piece of hex rod about 35 years ago. I keep it in my tool box. I had my own tools for years and then when my good friend and Mopar mentor passed away many years ago, I inherited his monster tool box filled with lots of goodies!

For the record, I made one of these from a HF paint stirrer like 3 years ago, for my son. It's been used thrice, and the rod shows it's twisted almost half a turn. is China steel (presuming the HF stirrer is China steel) softer? Steel is steel, right?

No! Steel is not steel. I bought a set of USA made drill bits that cost three times as much as the ChiCom knock offs. The USA set has already paid for itself!

The good thing about our old cars is that you didn't need any special tools to work on them. On the newer cars every time I go to work on them I have to buy a new tool. The problem is where did I put that special tool to get the job done. I spend more time looking for the tool then doing the job.

That and the fact that I'm 71 years old now is why I don't work on the new cars we own! I got the bright idea to repack the wheel bearings and inspect the brakes on my tandem axle 5th wheel RV a couple of years ago. I had to use a 20 ton bottle jack and do one wheel at a time, and it took me two days!
